Friday 13th February 2026 Sussex Alerts - Eastbourne Police
Dear residents,
Please find below the latest Sussex Alerts from Eastbourne Police.
Helping to keep communities safe together
Our Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs) play an important role in community engagement; getting out and about, strengthening partnerships, building relationships with residents, and gaining a real understanding of local issues.
This week your Willingdon Trees PCSOs joined local residents and local Councillors Cllr. Sayers-Cooper and Cllr. Swansborough for an hour, who were conducting a community litter pick and general tidy up around Holly Park.
Officers attended not only to support the community initiative, but also to carry out their own proactive knife and sharp object sweeps, checking for any discarded potential weapons - helping to ensure the area remains safe for youngsters to play, as well as for dog owners and their four-legged friends to enjoy their walks.
Officers also took the opportunity to meet new residents and reconnect with familiar faces, hearing first hand what matters most to them, and looking at ways how we can work together to address community concerns.
Thank you to everyone involved, what a great community led initiative to be a part of!
Arrest update following vehicle crime
We are investigating several recent incidents of both vehicle theft and theft from vehicles in the areas of Langney and Seaside.
We can now confirm we have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of theft from a motor vehicle - he was arrested on 8 February.
He has since been released on bail while we continue with our investigation, including identifying further offences, conducting CCTV checks, and working with victims to help recover stolen items.
While we continue to investigate all reported offences, we strongly encourage anyone who has been a victim of recent vehicle crime in the area, and who has not yet reported it directly to us to please report it online or by calling 101.
Increased visible patrols have helped create safer town centres this winter
Increased visible patrols over the Winter have helped create safer town centres and accounted for more than more than 4000 hours of additional high visibility patrols in December and January across Sussex.
These patrols also led to 55 stop searches and 319 arrests for crimes such as retail crime, robbery, assault and sexual offences across the County, along with a number of significant prison sentences for prolific shoplifters, including that of an Eastbourne man who was jailed for six months.

Simple Words of Advice Turn Into a Summons
While on patrol in town this week, officers from our Roads Policing Unit (RPU) noticed the pictured vehicle failing to give way to pedestrians who had already stepped onto a crossing.
Officers caught up with the driver with the intention of offering simple words of advice about the rules around pedestrian crossings, but things quickly changed…
When the driver produced their licence for identification, it became clear that it had expired!
What began as a minor stop swiftly escalated, with the driver now facing a summons for the offences, as well as having their vehicle seized under Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act.
A routine reminder turned into a costly lesson; always give way to pedestrians, and always ensure your documents are in order.

Message from Roy Peacock, Eastbourne Neighbourhood Watch Association
I regret to inform you that Ken Ross, the Chair of ENWA, passed away last November.
Unfortunately, circumstances have prevented us from providing this notice earlier.
The funeral service was held on Tuesday, 10th February, at 3 pm, Eastbourne Crematorium.
Ken was 80 years old, a renowned international Celebrity Showbusiness Photographer and on retiring to Majorca, he published a magazine called Celebrity in Majorca. After 16 years of health problems, he and his wife moved to Eastbourne.
Looking for something to do in Eastbourne, Ken volunteered to join ENWA. He was elected Chair of Eastbourne Neighbourhood Watch Association in January 2020 and resigned as Chair at the last AGM in January 2023, knowing his wife's health was deteriorating.
On hearing of his resignation, the Local Chief Inspector Di Lewis asked him to stay with me to help relaunch ENWA. Since then, he has secured funds to help us do it and acquired a desk at the Grove Road police station as a base, equipped with a computer and printer.
We have been bedevilled by problems since the COVID pandemic, the resignation of our NW Scheme Coordinator Secretary, our inability to use the information passed to us, and the death of a new volunteer to overcome this problem, all aggravated by the poor health of Ken and me.
Meanwhile, the strength of Eastbourne Neighbourhood Watch Schemes coverage of some 15,000 homes, with changes due to people moving, resigning, dying and new Coordinators or replacements, continues, thanks to your help.
Best regards, Roy.

Eastbourne Police extend our condolences to Ken's family and all those who knew him at this time.
